And the concealed fasteners on a standing seam system mean there are no exposed screw penetrations to back out and start leaking in fifteen years.

The tradeoff is upfront cost. Metal generally runs $20,000 to $38,000 installed on an average home, roughly double a shingle roof. Over a fifty-year horizon it is cheaper; over a five-year horizon it is not.
