Storm Damage & Insurance Claims in Lexington, KY

Hail and wind damage is often invisible from the ground and still entirely claimable. We document it, help you file, and talk to the adjuster directly.

After a Kentucky hail or wind storm, Spangler Roof Systems documents the damage, explains your rights as a claimant, helps you file, and communicates directly with your insurance company and adjuster to justify the proposed scope of work. The inspection and the claim assistance are free — you pay your deductible and your carrier covers the balance of a covered loss.

What Kentucky storm damage actually looks like

Hail damage on an asphalt roof is rarely a hole. It is a soft bruise where the impact fractured the mat and knocked the granules loose — the shingle looks nearly normal from the driveway and has lost a decade of life. Wind damage is often a shingle that lifted, broke its seal, and laid back down looking intact.

This is why storm claims get missed. Homeowners look up, see a roof that looks fine, and never file within the carrier’s window. Then three years later the roof starts leaking and the claim is long expired.

If a storm dropped hail anywhere near your street, get the roof looked at. The inspection is free and takes an hour.

How the claim process runs

The sequence matters, and doing it in the wrong order costs people money.

  • Free inspection. We walk the roof, document every impact and lifted shingle with dated photographs, and tell you honestly whether there is a claimable loss. If there is not, we say so.
  • You open the claim with your carrier. It is your policy and your claim — we do not file it for you, and you should be wary of any contractor who offers to.
  • Adjuster meeting. We meet your adjuster on the roof and walk the damage with them. This is the single highest-leverage hour in the whole process.
  • Scope agreement. We explain our proposed scope of work to the carrier and reconcile it against theirs — line items for flashing, drip edge, ventilation and code upgrades are the ones most often left off an initial estimate.
  • Approval and schedule. Once the scope is agreed, we schedule the work.
  • Completion and final invoice. The carrier releases depreciation on completion documentation. You pay your deductible.

A word about deductibles

You will meet contractors who offer to "eat the deductible" or "make it disappear." In Kentucky, as in most states, that is insurance fraud, and it exposes the homeowner as well as the contractor. It also tells you exactly what corners that contractor is willing to cut on the roof itself.

Spangler does not do it. You pay your deductible, the carrier pays the balance of the covered loss, and everything is documented.

FAQs

Storm Damage & Insurance Claims — questions we get asked

How do I know if my roof has hail damage?

You usually cannot tell from the ground. Hail damage on asphalt shingles shows as soft bruised spots where granules have been knocked loose and the mat beneath is fractured. Spangler Roof Systems provides a free inspection and documents any damage with dated photographs.

How long do I have to file a roof damage claim in Kentucky?

Most Kentucky homeowner policies require notice within a stated period after the loss — commonly one to two years, but it varies by carrier and policy. Check your declarations page, and file as soon as damage is documented rather than waiting for a leak.

Will filing a claim raise my premium?

A single weather claim generally has less effect than people expect, because it is not attributable to you. Multiple claims in a short window can affect renewal. Your agent can tell you how your specific carrier treats it before you file.

Do you charge for the claim assistance?

No. The inspection, the documentation, the adjuster meeting and the scope discussion are all part of the job. We are paid for the roofing work, out of the claim proceeds and your deductible.
